Know that it's okay to ask for help

The growth of social media, like Instagram, Facebook and even Tik-tok has given us a look in to other people’s daily family life like never before. We are bombarded on a daily basis with all the photo worthy moments that are endlessly posted for all the world to see and comment.

One thing most parents don’t know going in to parenthood is how hard it actually is. There is no manual or guidebook to raising a family; it’s more of a learn-on-the-fly type of situation with a steep learning curve and a constant moving target.

Sometimes, when you are in the midst of parenting, it is hard to realize or determine if outside help is needed. This assistance could be in the form of a lactation consultant, meal or grocery delivery, automatic supply replenishing, babysitting, meal services or literally someone just bringing you a coffee.

Being a new mom is hard work and being a new first time new mom can be even harder as you find yourself in altogether exciting but definitely new situations that you would not encounter outside of being a parent.

If you find yourself immersed in a new situation, perhaps breastfeeding or getting a small person to sleep makes you feel in over your head, do reach out to a professional to help set you up for success. There is no right or wrong time to do this. Some like to muddle through a bit before asking for help, some like to prepare and learn everything before diving in, some like to have instruction right at the get, your distinct learning personality will dictate when you feel comfortable to engage help from a professional.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Don’t hesitate to reach out. Every parent has stood in your shoes at one time or another. Every parent learns at their individual pace. There is no shame in getting help for your parenting game!
